Thus Into The Fray
Greyfell's Gryffons found themselves at the old abandoned Throckmount Keep soon after noon on the third day setting out from Landskhar. It truly was a swift trip up the river.
Throckmount Keep is a large, imposing presence in the Throckmount Forest. It is three stories tall, and made of large blocks of moss and lichen covered granite, quite unusual considering the surrounding countryside is primarily of a limestone nature. The family still has a small holding, a manor, nearby, which is almost never visited.
The large, locked iron door proved to be no real challenge for Tolden and company. Some things of note: when they entered the keep, Greyfell's Gryffons found that there was evidence that some unlucky party had preceeded them, and been killed by a pit trap and some sort of fire construct or elemental. The Entrance Hall was explored, the only apparent door opened only to find that said fire elemental blocked the way. After some investigation, a loose sconce on the wall revealed a secret door into a Guard Barracks to the west. Very little of not was found in this room. Here is the list:
8 daggers, 5 pewter cups, 56 cp, 120 sp, 15 gp, 1 rusted helmet, 1 pair of copper and turquoise bracers.
There was a small passageway to the south out of the Guard Barracks, running east to west. To the east was the room guarded by the fire elemental. After some small debate, the fire elemental or construct was attacked. When the fire being was destroyed, it was found that where it stood there was a pile of ash and three very charred shields and fire destressed swords, quite unusable.
A short trip down the passageway to the west, and the party discovered a storage room/work room, with a large wooden work table in the center and shelves along the walls. Upon the table was a skeleton inscribed with runes, and with two pieces of ghost amber placed where the eyes should been. Also found were:
6 black candles. Coal and bin. 2 sprigs of what appears to have been mistletoe, in a small ivory jar. A parchment rolled, in a mahogany case, titled "Khark Of The Thousand Arms and His Unholy Worship."(hidden behind one of the bookshelves) Thorough study of this text, written in Trade Language (8 hours study for 3 days) will give a permanent +1 to all Knowledge (Religion) checks. Jar of Dead fireflies. Incomplete book of magical runes (History Of Forbidden Magic, by Lyrmor the Red). Vial of green slime. A dried venus flytrap. Unicorn fur. Travelling alchemy lab case, masterwork. 12 smokesticks. One bag of glass marbles. A clay pot filled with dirt from a grave. One glass cone. Snow, preserved in a magical glass box, cold to the touch. 4 arrows with glass tips.
The party decided to chop off the head of the skeleton. It was at this moment that, while they were huddled around the hideous corpse, awaiting some form of undead reprisal, no doubt, that they were attacked from behind. A thing entered the room from the passageway, composed of bits of metal floating in mid air in a jumble, old coins, chains, broken helmets, broken knives and swords, cups, bucklers, etc. The swarm of objects then attacked the party. Eventually, it was fought off and destroyed.
Several members of the party, Arcturus in particular, at one point noticed that Bada Teres was blasting the creatures without using a wand.
It was decided that perhaps some of the party needs to go outside and rest for a while to regain their strength.
